MOONFLEET A 41 v DOLPHIN A 35
Moonfleet A entertained Dolphin A in this latest nail-biting Ladies County league match played at home. Gill Lock, Jill Poulter, Linda Bryson and skip Anne Chislett had a game of two halves against the Dolphin rink with skip A Walker. After six ends the visitors were one shot ahead at 6 – 5, but they then went up a gear to widen the lead to 13 – 8 by the twelfth end. The Moonfleet ladies then got well and truly into the driving seat and, winning seven of the remaining nine ends, they left the visitors standing and added 15 shots to their total to claim a 23 – 18 victory.
On the other rink Margaret Hooper, Di Edwards, Trixie Dempsey and skip Margaret Crawford had a really close tussle against the Dolphin rink with skip Julie Leake. The hosts got off to a good start and were 8 – 4 ahead after six ends, but the visitors soon closed the gap to bring the score level at 9 – 9 by end eleven. The Dolphin quartet then kept control over the next five ends to move 16 – 11 in front by end fifteen. Another push by the hosts saw the gap narrow and, by the penultimate end Moonfleet were trailing by just 2 shots. As measures took place on the final end, the tension was almost audible. Three shots to the Moonfleet foursome though gave the hosts a winning 18 – 17 score on this rink and an overall total of 41 – 35 to claim the maximum 8 points for the match.
