MOONFLEET A   37    v    DORCHESTER A   36

Moonfleet A travelled over the hill to Dorchester in this cliffhanger contest in the Ladies County league. Jill Poulter, Di Edwards, Helen Monelle and skip Carole Venton had a game of two halves against the Dorchester rink with skip B Lacey. The hosts quickly moved into an early lead and continued to dominate over the first eleven ends, building up a very comfortable 17 – 2 score. From the next end onwards though, the Moonfleet foursome took control and, only allowing the hosts one end, the visitors piled on the pressure to bring the scores even at 20 – 20 by the penultimate end. With all in the balance, the final victory went to the hosts who claimed a single winning shot on the last end to finish 21 – 20.

On the other rink Monique Gandy, Jennie Brown, Linda Bryson and skip Margaret Crawford took control from the word go against the Dorchester rink with skip S Jenning and, by end nine, the Fleet rink had notched up a comfortable 11 – 1 lead. The hosts struggled to make any great impression over the following eight ends and the visitors seemed securely 17 – 6 ahead with four ends to go. Suddenly though, the Dorchester rink came to life and, winning all of the final four ends, they nearly closed the gap completely. Fortunately for the Moonfleet ladies, their early lead was enough to enable them to finish with a narrow 17 – 15 win, a one point overall total of 37 – 36 and 6 out of the 8 points available for the match.
